Will painting my cabinets by professionals save me money on my kitchen remodel?

Many of our kitchen remodeling clients will ask us about painting their cabinets instead of replacing them. Often, they are considering taking on the task themselves as a DIY project. Before we can provide a simple yes or no answer to this question, there are a few important considerations. We certainly understand staying within budgets and looking for ways to save money, but sometimes painting your own cabinets may not be the best solution.

We advise homeowners to answer these questions in order to make the right decision.

  1. Why are you remodeling your kitchen? If you need more space or need to reconfigure the layout, this will affect your cabinets. If you are simply looking to update the look of your kitchen aesthetically by pulling and replacing cabinets, countertops, appliances and flooring then move on to question #2.
  2. Is your current cabinet layout adequate? If you feel that you have the right amount of cabinets, in the right location, with adequate storage then move on to question #3.
  3. What is the condition of your existing cabinetry? Is the wood in good condition and the doors and drawers in good working order? If you can answer yes, then move on to question #4.
  4. A professional will be needed if you wish to have quality looking cabinets.

If these questions led you to believe that painting your cabinets doesn’t make sense or if you think it’s too big of a job and you don’t want to handle it yourself contact Pro Coats Painting LLC and we will be happy to help update your kitchen without the major cost.
